The importance of stretching before and after physical activity

by Amanda Rykers, Langley Sports Medicine Clinic

Stretching not only improves appearance, lengthens muscles, and gives that lean, toned look but it also improves fitness and health. It is the ultimate for preventing injuries; in fact, at least 50% fewer overextension injuries are reported with athletes who use a regular stretching routine compared to those who don't! Stretching is a great warmup or cooldown and improves muscular coordination, as well as prevents soreness and promotes faster recovery.

Farmer Road 8k Fall Classic, Abbotsford

On a windy Sunday morning the first Annual Farmer Road 8km Fall Classic got underway. Although the windy conditions made things dry out by race start, it did slow runners through the majority of the race course. Runners ran along scenic farm roads south of the university with local runners Alain Blondeau and Valley Royal athlete Alexandra Siemens coming away with the individual wins. Alain covered the 8km course in 29:22 to capture the men's title while Siemens ran a strong 34:47 to capture the overall women's title. Age Group Results »
