Beneficiaries
The Esquimalt 8km will benefit two charitable organizations: The Rock Solid
Foundation and the Peninsula Runners Athletic Society.
The Rock Solid Foundation
was started in 1997 by a group of law enforcement officials,
Victoria Shamrocks and Canadian Rugby Players. There was a need for violence prevention programs
in Victoria and Rock Solid was developed to fill the gap. Since then Rock Solid has spoken to
over 750,000 young people and is growing constantly. Rock Solid has a Kindergarten to Grade 3
program (WITS)
and is currently piloting a 4 and 5 program (WITS LEADS). By September 2006
Rock Solid will offer Kindergarten to Grade 12 violence prevention and conflict resolution
programs in our schools. Youth and Community development has come hand in hand with school
programs. Rock Solid has developed the Trackside Art Gallery (the World's Largest Outdoor
Youth Art Gallery). The TAG teaches youth a wide range of skills: graphic design, decalling,
landscaping, event planning, volunteerism, coordination...to name a few. The TAG is built within
the Foundation by the Factory Print Shop—Rock Solid's first social enterprise. The TAG
and the Factory Print Shop generate revenue for our violence prevention programs, pave the road
to sustainability and offer youth the opportunity to learn both employable and entrepreneurial
skills. A lot of new and exciting things are happening at the Foundation—we would love to have
you on board. Check us out at: www.rocksolid.bc.ca.
