Home :: Victoria :: Fall 2005 Clinic Results at RVM Fall 2005 Clinic Results at RVMCongrats to all runners of the 26th Royal Victoria Marathon, Half and 8km. Our clinic members had some special moments on Sunday so enjoy them—you all worked very hard!!! At right are the results from the clinic. Peninsula Runners would like to make special notice of all the work Randy L'Heureux put in. He put in countless hours and has a huge future with the marathon group at Peninsula Runners. As soon as it works for Randy, Peninsula Runners has a job open for him anytime. Thank you Randy from all the Staff and all the Clinic Members.
In the 8km...Where do we start? That was the question 4 months ago. Now the answer seems endless for this group. Becoming a runner is a difficult and time consuming event but I think Steve and Michelle did a wonderful job with this group. The spark of the group award has to be given to Tina. Her hard work and smile picked everyone up during those workouts. The improvement award goes to two people—Liane and Anna Marie. No question about this one. They have worked harder than anyone and have a huge future in the running community. What a group of beginners. In the Half...
This clinic was very special. It is defining the store and our involvement in the Victoria running community. The people and the group are so pleasant and willing to learn that it has made Wednesdays a favourite for us. Some of the most outstanding runs were had by Penny and Jenni. Together they destroyed their clinic goals. Zeke ran 1:19 in the Half which is unreal. Robert, Kym, Sean, Danson, Sarah, Colena, Wendy, Thor and Carrie all had outstanding Halfs. Everyone who seemed to stick with the training has appeared to have breakthroughs. I know it's different, but it works. It was too bad to see some close milestone numbers just missed. I know Alexa, Nicole, Andrea and Lance will all have to give the Half another run before retirement. Coaching the half group was an extremely enjoyable experience. Thank you. The moment that I will remember on race day was when Carrie and Wendy crossed the line holding their hands in the air. Most improved person in this group actually didn't even start in this group—Thor! He stuck it out and broke the 2 hour barrier in his first try. In the Marathon...The most special moment of the day was watching Duane run his marathon in Sub 3:30. Duane was one of the original 5 people in the clinic (when running up Midgard didn't get complaints) and has been improving and improving. I know how hard Duane works and his hard work is an inspiration to all of us. Tom and Diane also exceeded all of my expectations. It was too bad to see Jim come in 1 minute and 38 seconds over 4 hours. He was one of the hardest workers in the clinic and it would have been a nice reward. Shelagh also had a nice PB in Munich. It's very hard to run well when you travel across the world. The marathon group represented us very well. They actually finished second as a team in the overall rankings. They were second to the Prairie Inn Harriers—a running club with over 400 members!!! Staff resultsI'm also very proud of some of the staff that ran on the weekend. Silas Wiefelspuett ran 2:49:11 and was second in his age group. Alison Shirley ran 37:57 in the 8km and won her age group. Michelle Payne ran the Half in 2:01:38 and doesn't know it yet but has been signed up for the Oak Bay Kool Half in May where she will try to go under 2 hours!!! Eric Kiauka ran 24:51 for the 8km and finished 4th. Michael Shewchuk ran 32:54 and then had the difficult job of helping Michelle with the last 4 km of her Half-marathon. Well done Michael! What's next?
I have received much interest about continuing in the Fall. What I have decided to do is: we will continue to train (Run Club) towards our goals. We will be building our bases for the Spring. We will be adding longer slow miles and working on injury prevention and proper training techniques. We will take this Wednesday off but be back at it on the 19th of October at 6:30pm. There is also a Women's Only Clinic starting for people who think they might require more attention before they conquer the Spring clinic. Congratulations to all who ran and especially those who didn't have great races but stuck it out and finished with their heads high! |
